New Year’s Eve 2020

New Year’s Eve 2020

The highlight of our stay in Sydney and the reason we took off right after Christmas was to ring in the world’s first New Year’s celebration for 2020. To assure the best vantage point, we took a dinner cruise in the Sydney Harbour. The cruise included a buffet dinner, an open bar and live entertainment. Our boat was in the Parade of Lights.  This means the boat was gussied up with colorful lights and in the “Exclusion Zone” with the best possible view of the Harbour Bridge and the display. We had lots of room to move around. The shorelines as far as the eye could see were chockers, packed with over 1 million people.  Many of the viewing locations were full and closed to additional spectators by 4pm. This is Chockers Our boat cruised the harbor for 2 hours and then got into position for the 9:00 PM fireworks, which are an early and somewhat smaller display for families and a great warm up for the main event. The Midnight fireworks are for the entire world. We have never experienced a fireworks display like this. A solid 15 -20 minutes of lights and booms from all sides of the Harbour Bridge. Just amazing. We tried to capture some images to share on this site and hope they give a sense of the magnificence of this event.

  1. Fun seeing what you have written so far. Hope you keep having fun and safe travels. Snow and cold here in Milwaukee. You certainly aren’t missing much here.

  2. I can’t really find the words, an “amazing adventure” doesn’t quite do your trip justice. Please have fun, be safe and send more updates. Also, Happy Birthday Steve!

  3. Great way to spend New Years Eve. Guessing the two of you had the best view of all! Appreciate the pictures and comments.
